Databases and datasets

At Blonk, our work revolves around reliable, qualitative environmental data. We use this data in our consultancy work, but we also have a selection of datasets to be shared with experts in the agri-food sector or academic community.

As a researcher, product developer, consultant or sustainability expert, you are now able to get access to our datasets to make sure your project relies on sound, recognized data.

Take a look below to discover our datasets.

Overview of Blonk's databases and datasets

Food Consumption Impact Datasets

The production and consumption of food products have an impact on the environment - think of issues such as climate change, water use and land use. Consumer awareness on the sustainability of food consumption patterns is increasing – however, it is still quite difficult to get a good grasp on the environmental impact of the food products purchased in the supermarket. At Blonk, we have collected numerous insights and data on the impact of these consumer food products. Products include consumer foods, ranging from apples, carrots, wholemeal bread, mustard, prepared mixed salad and ready to eat soups to sunflower oil, yoghurt and meat burgers. Our Food Consumption Impact Datasets open up a range of opportunities for companies and organisations aiming for a more sustainable world.

GFLI database

The GFLI - the Global Feed LCA Institute - is an independent animal nutrition and food industry institute with the purpose of developing a publicly available Animal Nutrition Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) database. Their freely available database contains high quality datasets for animal feed ingredients. The GFLI database is the main international source of LCA information on animal feed production and contribute to making the sector more sustainable.

The GFLI database contains environmental impact data of raw feed materials, available from different geographical areas. Included are regional, sectoral and branded data. Regional data is primarily based on our LCA database Agri-footprint. Sectoral and branded data are added at every update, continuously improving and expanding the database to stimulate improvement of the feed industry's environmental performance.

Branded Datasets

Agri-footprint branded data are brand-specific add-ons to the Agri-footprint database. Whereas Agri-footprint contains a wide range of average data on agricultural commodities, branded data is company- or brand specific life cycle impact data. Disclosed by companies themselves, calculated with a share of primary data this branded data helps companies to make the environmental performance of their products visible and share it with stakeholders.

LUC Impact Dataset

Deforestation is one of the major issues facing the global agriculture production system, with as much 8% of global CO2 emissions being attributable to land use change. A well-known example is deforestation for the cultivation of crops such as soybean and oil palm.

A big challenge for Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) researchers is to translate this impact of land use change to specific crops from specific countries while little primary data is available. Our ‘LUC Impact Tool’ is specifically designed to address this challenge.

LUC Impact is an Excel tool which provides a predefined way of calculating GHG emissions from LUC. The LUC Impact dataset includes all possible crop-country combinations from the ‘country known; previous land use unknown’ functionality of the tool.

Agri-footprint

Advancing sustainability in the agri-food sector requires accurate and clear information. Blonk developed Agri-footprint to provide a thorough and consistent life cycle inventory (LCI) database for the agriculture and food sector. The database is widely used and implemented by the food industry, LCA community, scientific community and governments worldwide.
